On the day of his brother's wedding, Michael Rawlins re-evaluates his life as he escapes his relatives' questions: "Are you still at that same old job?" "When are you going to settle down?" His friend Shepherd Wallace describes him as a "garden without seed." To this, Michael can only reply, "Good. There's a term for it."
