Above the Mountains had its World Premiere as part of The Cliff Plays on March 20, 2003 at the Margot Tenney Theater in Bennington, Vermont. It was directed by Penn Genthner, with lighting design by Amy Wallace and sound design by Hans Buetow. The Stage Manager was Ana Cruceanu. The cast was as follows:

It was subsequently produced, in a revised version, as part of the first annual Theatre UAB (University of Alabama at Birmingham) Festival of Ten-Minute Plays at Bell Theatre on October 25, 2003 in Birmingham, Alabama. It was directed by Dennis McLernon, with production coordination by Kyle Johnson. The Stage Manager was Erin Thompson. The cast was as follows:

A young couple on a hiking trip are in the first flush of love. But, Randall has neglected to make Kay aware he is afraid of heights. The vibrant young woman challenges Randall in a way that opens their relationship to a new, more truthful, beginning.
